The US-based automobiles company Rivian has finally unveiled its first electric vehicle. This is a five-passenger pickup truck called the R1T. At the Los Angeles Auto Show, the Rivian R1T is considered as a dream truck for off-road type’s experience. Different from other high-profile electric vehicle startups, Rivian develop its EV technology and prepare a plan to have more volume production of its vehicles.

Well the Rivian is making its truck called as “Electric Adventure Vehicles.” This vehicle will also include the aforementioned SUV.  This new class is for vehicles built with jagged functions in mind, such as construction sites, towing, off-road and other adventurous drives.

The Design

While coming to this truck by Rivian, the R1T is 215.5 inches in length and 79.3 wide. This length makes the R1T is a little bigger than a Honda Ridgeline and Chevrolet Colorado Extended. Its design is as futuristic as anything from a Sci-Fi film, with a full-width bar on the nose that serves as the daytime running light, while oval “stadium lights” house the actual LED headlights. With no need for a traditional grille, the truck’s face is unusually flat and plain. At the lower edge, there’s a functional skid plate and two fold-down recovery hooks.

The Battery

Rivian explains that this truck has three battery options.  While equipped with their top battery pack configuration, can travel from roughly a 350-mile round trip. Thus, the official ranges are 230 miles “or more” with the 105 kWh, 300 miles with the 135 kWh, and at least 400 miles with their 180 kWh packs. Besides that Rivian says that it will move up to 230+ miles, 300+ miles, and 400+ miles with full charge.

The configurations have the four-motor electric all-wheel-drive power-trains, which are rated at 147 kW per electric motor. The truck carries a charge rate of up to 160 kW at fast-charging stations, with an 11-kW on-board charger for level 2 charging.

The Performance

Coming to the performance, the all three versions of the truck have a top speed of 125 miles per hour. The mid-range battery pack version is the quickest, according to Rivian, hitting 60 miles per hour. On the other hand, the 400-mile battery version of the truck sends 700 horsepower resulting in hitting the 60 mph mark in 3.0 seconds. The short-range version will go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, with 400 horsepower.

Other Specs

Other look forward specs are a payload rating of 1,764 pounds and a tow rating of just over 11,000 pounds. The truck’s control weight is listed at 5,886 pounds. Because all of the power electronics and components are fully sealed, the R1T can also safely wade through 3.3 feet of water as well.
